Meetings of the Directors Monday Evening.A special meeting' of the Board ot Directors of the Young Men’s Christian Association was held Monday evening in the Board of Trade Rooms. JOyetv member was present, and Vice President Prugb accepted the chair. State Secretaries Doggett and Gordon were also present. Mr- Gordon led in the opening prayer asking for special guidance in the business to be transacted. Secretary Ralston read the minutes ol the previous meeting. The first item oi business was the report from the Fin* auceCommitteewbieh should leave with some amounts reported in the meeting a balance of 517,045 with several more probable subscriptions to hear from. The committee on the vacant Presidency, Mr. C. L. Wood, Chairman, reported that they had gone carefully over tiie business committed to them in view of the whole hearted earnestness, enterprise and efficiency which Mr. Bundle had shown since his election, Mr. Woods moved a reconsider-_ of the motion accepting his resignation which had prevailed at a former meeting and that being passed it was miai.' imously agreed by a rising vote that his resignation not be accepted. Mr. Bundle deemed but was coiistrained*to take the presiding chair much to the satisfaction of all.Mr. II. K. Woods and Mr. Louis J .eonaid, of the Com mittee on si te reported a number of propositions that had been sent in and among them one of the most liberal gifts ever made to this city was offered by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Slauson. The interest in this movement has been marked from the first. A proposition was received from them stating the exact outlay In erecting the Scott-tilau sou block and offering the building for $8000, less than its actual cost. The SSUOO to be given as a memorial to Mr. Wm. Scott, Mrs. Siauson’s deceased f a t h er. This gener-ous gift was much appreciated and a 1 ©solution was passed by the Board thanking the doners for the proposed gift and the earnest sympathy which it showed with this work for young men. The Board then suent considerable time iu-weighing the propositions which had come before it. Eyery member felt the responsibility of the hour and it was only after careful deliberation that a lit ml decision was reached. All felt that no hasty step should be taken. On motion after discussion with a rising vote the Board decided to purchase the Rink Corner and erect on it a building for the use of the young men of Piqua. This meeting ©marks the culmination of a remarkable movement. Our City has shown its interest in winning our young men to a noble life, and their building devoted to their distinctive object surrounded by beautiful Commons and a campus as it were will in trie years to come be a center of mlicence that will be a blessing to the whole community. The Board have acted wisely. The men who have given of their means were almost to a man anxious that this site should he chosen and a building erected on it that would be a blessing and a credit to our City. The building to be erected will be a distinctive building, adapted especially for the purpose for which it is to be used. One strong point in causing the Board to decide on the Rink Corner was the fact that in spending 525,000 the City should have a distinctive building and not try to use a store building that could never lie -fully adapted to its use.I‘Ians for the new building are to be secured at once.
