There passed away at Ponoka, Alta, on Friday, March 23rd, an old timer of this district in the person of Franklin A. Thomson. He was born in Markham County, Ont., and educated at Cedar Grove School. He served his apprentice ship as a blacksmith and cabinet maker at his home in the east, and came to Manitoba as a young man settling near Austin, Man. In 1893 he was married to Lil lia Harding and they moved to Altamont, Man., where Mr.Thom son worked at his trade for seve ral years. Returning to Austin in 1898, they ‘took up farming and the manu facturing of cement blocks, Mr. Thomson having built several of the homes in the district. Leaving the Austin district in 1930, he made his home at Cal gary, until entering the hospital at Ponoka, Alta, on March 1st, where he passed away at the age of 8 years. ‘Mrs. Thomson predeceased him in 1941. He leaves to mourn, one daughter and three sons; Mrs. R. Edgar and Melvin of Austin; Nor nan of Swastika, Ont; Stewart of Connecticut, US.A.. Also survivi ng are six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral service was conduct ed by Rev. J. Shaver of Sidney, in the Austin United Church with burial in Austin cemetery. The pall bearers were James Hay, Jack Boyd, Earl Templeton Elmer Templeton, Don Carruthers and Owen Jones.
