A Well Known and Prominent Citizen Passes Away at His Home in North Defiance. John V. Schoeninger, a highly re spected citizen and pioneer business man of Defiance died at his home No. 122 High street, North Defi ance, yesterday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock, from the effects of asthma, with which he had been afflicted for 17 years. Deceased was 67 years old at the time of his death. He was born July 9, 1833, at Lauden bach, Mergendheim, Wurtemburg, Germany. Mr. Schoeninger came to America in 1853 and settled at Freehold, N. J., when in 1859 he was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Schmatz. Six children were born to them, two of whom are dead. Those who sur vive him are: Mrs. J. I. Hoeffel, Lou and Emma Schoeninger,of this city, and Otto Schoeninger, of Toledo. Deceased came to Defiance with his family in 1867 and has resided here ever since. He conducted a meat market for many years and was well known to all the older business men of the city. For the past three years he has been unable to attend to business as a result of his afflic tion. The funeral will take place tomor row morning at 9 o'clock from the German ‘Catholic church, Rev. Gloden officiating. Interment at Riverside cemetery.
