REMARKABLE ENDURANCEThe powers of human endurance seem to be limitless. The sufferings of Lieutenant‘Greeley and the ill fated members of the Janneltc Arctic expedition show that the spark of life is hard to quench in a healthy body.Given courage, a strong will, a fearless mind, and it is astonishing what prodigious feats of endurance may be performed. The neighborhood of 'Wu-tasklwin has provided several, astonishing examples of this. Last summer an old lady, (Mrs. Mackenzie, of j Hay Hakes), about 65 years of age. ; being left temporarily alone overnight by her son. went forth into tin.* brushj close by her house to fetch a milch ,cow. She lost track of her surround-! ings. didn't iind Hie cow, and kept ona.Xinnlt;sts«01pei«snncawandering. Although hunted for high £ ; and low by over 20 neighbors, the old r 'lady was not found till the fifth night. fiHer discovery was purely accidental, jc One of the searchers happened to be »riding by a clump of brush and fancied -he heard some one sobbing. Dis- '1 (mounting, he followed the sound -and came on the lost one walking aimlessly about, softly crying to herself. £hc had been out five days and five ; nights without a bite to eat, and no 'shelter. The strangest feature? of this ease is that 2-1 hours afterwards she was as well as ever and attending to her household duties.• •• k * | • I • 1 ' f ».*• ,J • J | |Fortunately this occurred in summer time.
