TT“V wumi. uunu 4V* -LUUatVU^J j'IMWViWU*“ Baron de Cam in ” in Manchester.—Lastnight the baron was announced to deliver a lecture on “Nuns and the Inquisition.” Long before the time fixed for the lecture a large crowd of persons had assembled in Peter-street, in front of the Free-trade Hall; and the authorities being apprehensive of a disturbance, placed 200 police officers in the assembly room and the ante-room, in order to preserve the peace if an emergency should arise. The price of admission to the reserved seats was Is. ; to the gallery 6d.; and to the body of the hall, 3d. At these prices about 2,000 persons were present. Afc ei^ht o clock the baron ascended the platform, accompanied by his youthful wife, attired in white, and the proceedings shortly afterwards commenced. Mr. Robert Atkinson was called to the chair, and in a few appropriate remarks introduced the baron to the audience. The baron was received with cheers, mingled with hisses and groans, and before he had finished the first sen* tence a man in the body of the hall interrupted him by crying out, “ You are a liar,” This was the signal\for an uproar, and the disturber was expelled fcbiidst cries of “ Turn him out.” The baron again proceeded with his address, bat at the end of each sentence a similar scene was repeated. These expulsions were effected in eaoh case by the audience themselves, and the police were not required to interfere to suppress anything like personal violence. At the conclusion of the proceedings the baron and his wife left the hail in a cab from a private entrance, and the vast mob which had assembled outside were consequently disappointed in getting a glance at hiai. We may state in conclusion, before the proceeding commenced, a drunken man was taken into custody who had a poker concealed up his coat sleeve.—-Manchester Examiner,f A TVT-in'r7c’irTt.tf xr*rl ** rTTt»
