GROUNDBREAKING FOR GREYHOUNDRACING PARK APRIL 18With the national resurgence of parimutuel greyhound racing, media representatives will receive an invitation to Council Bluffs, Iowa, within the next twoweeks for one of the midwest's major media events. April 18 has been set for the Ground Breaking Ceremonies and burying the Million Dollar Time Capsule on the 72-acre site of Council Bluffs’ new greyhound racing park, a $13 million facility to be constructed near the junction of Iowa’s Interstate Highways 80 and 29, Southeast of the Metropolitanarea.Plans call for a 120,000 sq. ft. 3-floor project with a 2500 vehicle parking area, kennels to house 1000 greyhounds, 200 computerized parimutuel wagering windows and a capacity of 7,000 fans. The result of a contract between AIM, Inc., the Management Corporation (Paul W. Bryant, Jr., President) and the Iowa West Racing Association, a non-profit Council Bluffs group, the track is scheduled for opening in March of ’86 forsome 200 annual racing days and an estimated 800,000 visitors.Festivities planned for the Thursday event in April includes the actual on site Ground Breaking and Community Dedication. luncheon and afternoon QA Conference Session for the news media at the Lakeshore Country Club and an evening VIP Dinner with Lawrence F. Scalise, Chairman of the Iowa State Racing Commission as keynote speaker.Officials of both Iowa West and the Bluffs community estimate that the track - once completed - will draw more than50,000 overnight guests during the season to this new recreational and tourism industry, while increasing county revenue by nearly three quarters of a million dollars. The State, County, and City should realize a total of $4 V* million in additional tax revenue.Excess revenues to the Iowa West non-profit corporation will ultimately be distributed to the communities within Pottawattamie Countv.
