UNDERWOODDallas Cowboy football star Dan Reeves helped to make the 1967 Burkburnett High School All-Sports Banquet a big success at the high school cafe-torium, Friday night, as his sincere and moving talk highlighted a program enjoyed by approximately 335 pepole in at-tendence at the annual affair sponsored by the Bulldog Booster Club. The program got underway with the invocation by the Rev. Don Youngblood, pastor of the First Methodist Church. Gary Bean served as Master of Ceremonies, introducing several guests in attendance. Head Coach Bill Froman, assisted by Coach Stan Owen, presented certificates of merit to all the Senior. Junior and Sophomore athletes, both girls and boys. Coaches Mike Bridges and Frank Mitchell presented certificates to the Freshmen. Certificates were also presented to managers and cheerleaders.Dan Reeves, who was introduced by T. M. Cornelius, gave : one of the most stirring talks I ever heard by this reporter, after opening with several humorous anecdotes. He attributed his success to three things:1. Being taught to always complete a task, once beginning it, by his parents.2. Coming from a community with pride in its school and athletics, and having a fineschool coach,3. And. most of all, being reared in a Christian home. Reeves said that he felt hisChristianity had been the key to his success, and urged all the young people present to always try to do things in a Christian way.I C. Evans, Superintendent of Schools, thanked Reeves for his talk, proclaiming it “the best” he had ever heard given to boys and girls.Roy Mitchell, Booster Club President, added his thanks and announced that officers for the 1967-68 season are Jack Aaron, President; Bill Reasoner, Vice President and Norman Roberts, Secretary. After the conclusion of the program, Reeves was kept busy for quite some time, signing autographs for admirers, both young and old. Everyone agreed that the evening’s festivities were a complete success. -—o-—
