PressUnsigned letter* *11) oof toeprinted, address Die Jewish Post. Box Hi33. Indianapolis Ind.THE NAJ. GEN. MAURICE ROSE INCIDENT UP AGAIN; ALSO VIEWS ON INTER-FAITHEditor, National Jewish Post:A friend of mine handed me a back copy of The National Jewish Post, Sept. 6, 194B. which I read with interest. Especially your editorial article on Major Gen. Maurice Rose, in which you pointed out that since Gen. Rose had been converted to Christianity how incongruous it was for Jews to build a memorial to him when ho deserted Judaism.Last month we celebrated what was known as Brotherhood Week. The slogan they adopted for 1947 is Brotherhood is the pattern for peace. With this in mind, I thought I would write to you in the hope that you could answer a few questions. It is not an unusual practice at all to have some rabbi invite a Christian minister to supply the pulpit, and of course in turn to read that some rabbi is in the pulpit substituting for the minister. This is hailed as an example of fine Inter-relationship which is supposed to exist among the people of various religions. Now all this is fine in print, but in actual living it does not work out that way. We Jews de mand tolerance and understand ing with others, but do not put that into practice ourselves. For example, your article on Major Gen. Mourice Rose, who fought and died in this last war, which would permit us to have freedom of worship is condemned by you for desiring this free^ dom of worship as he saw fit. Now comes Brotherhood Week which tells that we are one people. and have one God, etc. It just doesn’t make sense.Of course as a Jewish person myself, I do not agree with this inter-faith business, for it is all a sham as proven by your article, and also by other Jewish people who desire to worship in a church and then are told not too. If we Jews want tolerance, why not showr it to others, even if there are Jewish people who so desire to attend a Christian church. It goes without saying that Gen. Rose is not an isolated case by any means. I personally know of several Jewish people who have had this same experience.people turning away from Judaism. If it is true what you say about, we are all brothers and worship the same God, then why is this feeling of antagonism so prevalent? Now, wouldn’t it be better if the rabbis would put a stop to this nonsense and instead of patting one another on the back for a week or so, actually start to teach and preach the Bible, God’s own Word, as the solution of the ills of the people? Instead of de ploring this situation, why not indoctrinate the Jewish people in what God has for them, in stead of what man insists. Foranything that is man made is buttemporal, but. that which is of God, is eternal.GEORGE RUDOLPH Cleveland, 8, Ohio.11808 Durant Ave.,Editor’s Note: The Post did not and does not condemn Major Gen. Maurice Rose. He was a great soldier. We are even proud of the fact that he was born a Jew. We accord him every right to change his religion and do not impugn his motives for changing his religion. Our viewpoint is the same now- as it has always been. If Jews wish to build a memorial to a great Jew. then let them give it to one who remained a Jew. It’s as simple as all that.Mr. Rudolph is a little confused in his theology and also on his views of what Jews think about Christianity. Jews believe only in God. Christians, except for a few small sects, believe in God and the Son of God, Christ. Jews have no feelings about Christian* believing in Christ, tnat is their prerogative, as it is the prerogative oAhe Hindus to believe in Buddha. But there is a difference between these religions despite the fact that all lead to the same goal.(Continued on next page**The Mortuary W ith a Soul”In the beautiful Piter Memorial Chapelt
