Fire at Winchester.Special Dispatch to the Haiti more Sun.Winchester, Va., April 1.—The moat destructive fire that has occurred here for five years broke out this morning at halfpast 4 o’clock in the News printing-rooms, on Main street, near the southwrst corner of Water street, and for abaut an hour the entire corner seemed destined to destruction. Messrs. Funk Hay’s furniture and undertakers’ establishment, adjoining and north of the Ann office, was soon ablaze, as was the drugstore occupied by Mr. Fred. Miller, on the south side and directly under the compo3ing-rooma of the -Vein. The firemen did excellent work in aaviug adjoining property, and while fire streams were playing upon the building of Fuuk A Kay the amount of combustible matter coutained therein rendered it impossible to save any of their slock. An explosiuu of gunpowder or turpentine in the drug store shattered window and door frames from the rear of the building among the firemen. Several firemen were thrown to the ground aud one or two painfully but not seriously injured. Several buildings on the east side of Mainstreet were slightly damaged from licat.audone directly on the southwest corner of Main and Water Greets damaged to the extent of about $fi00. Tbo building was owned by Faulkner Bros., and occupied by Dr. C. Maynard. The loss of Messrs. Fuok Hay is estimated at about $12,000 for building and stock . insurance $7 ,'00.— Messrs. James O. F. Faulkner owned the building occupied by the News Publishing Company aud Miller's drug store; loss about 000; insurance $2,000. Fred. O. Miller, druggist, lost about $*00; covered with insurance. The News Publishing Company's loss will be small. A force of men have beeu moving all the undamaged stock belonging to tho company to other quarters, and the editor, Mr. Robert M. Ward, says the A'trs will be out as usual this week. It is supposed by many here that the fire was of Incendiary origin. A quantity of salt was found in the tender of the t’uion fire engine, to cauac a» much delay as possible.■- —-♦ ♦Cure for Headache.
