Mur phy, Civil Aeronautics Board Chairman, in a govern ment plane. Murphy, an administrative assistant to President Truman, gave the annual institute lecture. College Boys Quiz Chief Justice Warren, Murphy and other distinguished guests joined the invited homefolk who attended the lecture, at the reception which followed in the west foyer of the library. The affable, tall, gray-haired jurist at one time was semi-circled by a group of admiring college boys, several of whom said they planned legal careers. One of the interested youths was Tom Wesner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Wesner, who is a sopho more at Missouri University and who plans to study business administration and law. Tom said the boys were asking the Supreme Court chief about “law at the constitutional level.” One youth explained he had a debate assignment on civil rights and he asked the jurist for some “pro” and “cons” on the subject. The boys quoted Warren as saying his duty is to interpret the constitution and, in answer to questions, “if it isn’t constitutional, I’m not for it.” Benton Glances at His Mural Thomas Hart Bention, the famed muralist, was in the audience. Benton was using a cane, but appear ed well after his recent illness. He gave his mural “In dependence and the Opening of the West” an apprais ing glance. The artist had said when he finished the work he was “satisfied” with it. Mrs. Truman Keeps to Side Wings Mrs. Truman came to the library while Murphy was talking but kept to the side wings. She explained later that she didn’t feel equal to attending a session in the library auditorium without Mr. Truman. But she did her bit at the reception, welcoming the out-of-town board members and local friends. She and Mrs. Oscar Chapman, who was pretty in a pink angora suit, are good friends, Mrs. Chapman looks much like Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson, although she is taller. U.S. Archivist Important Guest Dr. Robert H. Bahmer, archivist of the United States, was another important visitor. Dr. Bahmer, suc ceeded Dr. Wayne Grover, who retired a year ago. Dr. Grover came often during the planning and building of the Truman Library. The library is operated by the National Archives and Records Service which is a part of the General Services Administration.
