AURELIA SOCIETY— Pythian Sisters Meet isters, Aurelia Temple No. 72 met March 19 with M. E. C. Golda Buxton presiding. In the absence of regular of fers, the following served — pro fem: Past Chief, Hazel Stut anager, Tina Grienke, excellent junior, Ruby Johnson, Gladys arson, guard. ‘The meeting opened with the resentation of the flag and a pledge given in unison by the members, The visiting committee! ‘of April was established: Mary Hines, Vera Rapp, Elsie Haight. The alteristic report was given by Sister Claire Jordan. ‘A practice session for the school of instruction was scheduled for March 26 at the Temple. All mem bers of the staff and officers were requested to be present. A business comducted with lunch v served by Vesta Ohlson, Sylvia Langwin and Amy Peterson, conse ee = OKO WERE of Sewing material to be sent 10 recalled here recently when Mr. Germany, Lunch was served after any Mrs. Dwight Banister cele the meeting, brated their 50th wedding anniver sary on February 25. The Banisters are both mem bers of families who were Chero kee's earliest settlers. In fact, the Banister family originated here be fore Cherokee was established. Mrers father, a Civil 8, and his bride came t here in a covered wagon from Har din County in 1856. There were few |x pere tere at the te but a great many unfriendly Indians. On several occasions it became necessary to hastily retreat to the little ‘settlement of pioneers at what is now known as Smithland, va. Banister first engaged in saw mill operations but later as the town developed he became a gro cer. His son, C. A. Banister, later took over the grocery store. “Mrs. Banister’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Hayes, arrived in this community in 1869 and homestea ded the farm that the Ray John son family now occupies. Hayes purchased the farm for $250 per acre from the govern ment. The deed is now the proper ty of Mrs. Dwight Banister. Later they lived at 523 West+ Cherry. It was here that Dwight Banister and Lulu Hayes were mariied, February 25, 1897. Elder ©. J. Hunt of the Latter Day Saint Church performed the ceremony. About 40 relatives and friends at tended. ‘The couple farmed in this vicine ity until 11 years ago when they re tired and moved to Cherokee. They have four children: L. 8. _ Akron. .; Nathan, Gainesville, N.Y. Leslie and Mrs. Ray” Johnson, Cherokee. Friends_and relatives called on Mr. and Mrs. Banister on their an niversary and on the following Sunday.They were also remem bered with many cards, letters, flowers and gifts, GETS FIRST MIG SEOUL, Korea uh—Capt. May nard Stogdil of Clarinda, Ia., Mon day was credited with his first ommunist MIG destroyed in the Korean War. The Iowa jet pilot has four damaged Red fighters to his score.
