LOUISVILLE, April 3, (ANP)— Augustus Gran ville Dill, noted musician and sociology teacher who ac companied Roland Hayes on the latter’s first phonograph records, will leave here this week for New York where he will attend the reunion meeting of the New York Associa tion of the Harvard (Univeristy) Class of 1908. Dill, who has had quite an in teresting career in music and other fields, is currently doorman and assistant manager at the National and Grand Theatres in Louisville. He came here two years ago to help care for his sick sister, Mrs. Mary C. Broaddus. Born in Portsmouth, O., he received his preliminary educa tion there, and was a teacher in the public schools for four years. He also studied piano. He entered Harvard after re ceiving his B. A. degree from Atlanta University, 1906. He re ceived an A.B. degree from Harvard in 1908. Dill returned to Atlanta to teach for five years. During that time he was awarded his Master's degree. In 1918, he went to New York to begin a 15-year stint as business manager for the “Crisis,” the official publication of the NAACP. Always the musician, he counts as a high spot in his musical car eer the playing of the accompani ment for Roland Hayes, noted tenor concert artist, when the lat ter made his first phonograph re- One of these discs was “Bye and Bye.’ He will play for his class dinner on April 8, cards He has not played music in pub since coming to Louisville, not he because of modesty, but because he deals mostly in church music.
