cllt;anri]StrcStteRiMonday morning, March 30th, 1003, the community was shocked to hoar of the'death of V. E. Montgomery. His illness was of but a couple of weeks and hopes of his recovery from pneumonia were very favorable. Suddenly on Monday morning at about 2 o’clock he raised up in bed and the exertion was too much and the treacherous disease got in its deadly work. No better oitir.en ever lived in Moulton than “Wirt” Montgomery. He was a clean-cut business gentleman with manly traits clear through, and as a member of the old firm of Montgomery Bros, was widely known, The public will loso in him a valuable servant which will be hard to replace.On Tuesday the funeral occurred from the Methodist church and allbusiness houses closed in respect for one much respected and honored. Rev. W. S; Gardner, of the Methodist church, preached the funeral sermon and Rev. J. W. Evcrly, of the Baptist church, offered prayer. The house was crowded to the aiBles and deep grief was apparent everywhere. The floral offerings on the casket and tables were rich anti elegant—mute mementoes from I a loving friends. The K. E. church d about 21 years ago, and became a ,e member of Prairie Home Lodge, No.Lo. 273, K. of P., April 1, 1891. Wirt was a kind and affectionate husband anda loving father, and he was always ready to give a helping hand to those in need as hundreds can testify. He was a true and devoted Christian and never retired at night without reading a portion of God’s holy word.
