Mr. Fletcher is putting on airs for a citizen of such a one-horse town as Clarksville. It is reported that the New London canning factory recently changed hands at invaluation of $1,000. It cost $3,000 to put it up, and holders are said to have lost considerable money the first year j it was operated. The Wentzville Union says a citizen of that town is looking ‘‘very blue’’ from an attack of the measles. That must be a new variety of the disease. We thought measles usually gave a person rather a red cast of countenance. A Warren county man is introducing this season a new variety of sweet potato call the *“‘bunch ‘yam,’’ which is said to grow a vine much like a bunch bean, about eighteen inches high) and which never runs on the ground like the ordi nary variety. The receipts for Montgomery county from all sources during the past fiscal year were $29,959.95, while the total ex penditures were $33,353-80.At that rate it will be only a few years until that county will be iu as bad financial shape as our neighboring county of Pike. The Laddonia Herald says: The creamery at Martinsburg is running at full blast. It will be six years, the 15th of April since the creamery began operations and it has never stopped or missed taking milk. It is said that there is a prospect for a bigger run than ever for this coming summer. A benefit ow ners of the fly went to Chris Smith, a farmer living on Dar denner creek, killed a bald eagle near his home last Tuesday. It measured six feet from tip to tip and weighed about 65 or 70 pounds. There has been a pair of these eagles around that neighborhood for some time and Mr. Smith killed the female.—St. Charles Banner, F. C. Haley, a Louisiana ice dealer, has imported 93 car loads of ice in the past month for use in this aj the com ing summer and announces that he wil have to advance his prices to 45 cents per 100 pounds in small lots and 35 cents in lots of 100 pounds or more.Troy people seem in a fair way to do without this great luxury this summer. A two-year-old son of John Moore of Laddonia fell into an old cyclone cellar one day last week, which hai a couple of feet of water in it. The child was drowned before the accident was discovered. People cannot be too careful about leaving old wells, cellars, etc., about iedicamsters un covered. Scarcely a week passes but that we read of just such accidents as the above. _ Centre Courier: One of the parties that purchased goods from the agents of the Chicago Supply Co., last week, after the agent had sold him the bed and gone, told his wife that he was going to the county seat the next day and, upon being asked what for, replied that he was going to have a guardian appointed, as he was not competent to attend to his business any longer. There are several others in the same fix, if they would acknowledge it. Pike county, noted for gravel roads, modest politicians and educated citizens generally, makes the following contribu tion to literature, according to the Louisi ana Press.
