DIED—In Eaton, Ohio, on the 25th lay of March, A. i. 1884, Judge William Cuury, aged 91 years, 10 months anil 15 days.Judge Curry was born in Bedford Co., i'a., May 9th, A. 1). 1702 lie emigrated with his father, Matthew Curry, t«» Campbeil county, Ky., in the spring of 17‘Jti. His father died iu Cincinnati In lie summer of 179S, leaving a widow and two sons, William being the eldest.— When about 10 years old be came to Butler county, Ohio, to learn the tanner’s trade with Adam Deem, near Middletown. While an apprentice he assisted his brother-in-law, (.'apt. William Campbell, in starting a tannery near West Alexandria, in this county. In the year 1813 he married Sarah VanAusdal, a sister of Cornelius VanAusdal, and shortly after his marriage entered the army of Gen’l Harrison as a soldier in the war of 1812, and endured the hardships of several campaigns in north-western Ohio and Indiana. Judge Curry entered a tract of land in this county on Elk Horn creek, near the Indiana State line, where ho erected a tan-yard, followed bib trade and lived happily in a rude log cabin, and some years after sold out and removed to Darke county, Ohio, where he started another tannery, and was one of the first County Commissioners of Darke county.In the spring of 1824 he removed to Eaton, erected another tannery and continued in the business until 1S44, when he sold out. During this period he was for some time engaged injhe business of packing pork at Hamilton, Ohio, in partnership with his brother-in-law, C. Yan-Ausdal. He was also for a number of years engaged in the dry goods business at Eaton. He was active in the building of the Eaton Hamilton turnpike road, and was for many years both a Director and Treasurer of the Company. He served several terms as a Justice of the Peace, and also served a term of seven years as one of the Associate Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of this county. In 1845 lie was elected and served a term as a member of the Legislature of Ohio. In 1850 he was appointed Deputy United States Marshal of Ohio, and took the federal census of Preble county.
