TI-IE HEEALD.OVKCSIX. PAPMasixowoc, Tucbspax Ariur, 0. rant DAVi^fcKEC. Of the SecondWisconsin Volunteers, lias boon appoint-„/i tv Gov Harvey Lieutenant Colonel of the Fifteenth Regiment, in place of K.•fitM0lt;imboin;of1«vrtadwKtitult;soK, Joses, removed.—Sentinel.The above paragraph has reference ^ to a ebange of officers in the Scandinavian Regiment, recently mustered into the service of the U. S. at Madison. The plan of organizing a Scandinavian Regiment originated with the displaced Lieutenant Colonel K. K Jo.vns, lie is not a Norwegian himself, but his wile j ih is, and it was upon her assurance that her lo countrymen would volunteer in numbers sufficient to fill up a regiment, that he suggested the plan to Gov. llandall. It was favorably received, and at the request of Mr. Jones, Hans Hegg was appointed ; Col., and himself Lieut. Col. Mr. Hogg’s jlSl official duties a3 State Prison commission- j Plt; or prevented his giving personal attention j “«■ to the business of raising volunteers and • organizing the regiment, both of which , di departments were very cheerfully and of- ■ ficiently attended to by Lieut. Col. Jones, j of A '-rent deal of money and labor were re- ; nt rjuirvd in the enlistment of volunteers, j»' and these were liberally expended by the Hi: Lieut. Col; and there are those who he-. a1 lieve that his energy and perseverance, j unde: a bad of discouragements and, diffi-. clt; e-ilties, were the main cause of filling up • the regiment rapidly, and preparing it f-r j N service iu an unusually short time. Ills j C friends generally have given him great; C credit for his efforts in tins matter, as , i1 well as for his loyalty and devotion to the ' L cause of the Union ; and it is a matter of i' no little astonishment that announcement.-; G indicating his removal have been-noticed. !i;Col Jones is an impulsive man, and is h as liable to err as another ; but if his im-pulses soraetimes load him to the coinin':.-;- b. sio.u of a wrong, they a thousand times oftener are the incentives to noble and ugenerous deeds. _ _ ,eWe know not the cause of his removal. f.We have sometimes seen comments to his disparagement, without reference to any t specific charges, and there has been an (ungenerous disposition to east odium wills*uout giving any facts justifying eoudemsia- ( tion. So far as we can judge from what j has transpired, he was mustered into the j e U. S. service, by on U. S. officer, and j ^ mustered out again by State authority. I r Tliery has been no court martial—no trial ^ or examination. We hope the matter ( will he thoroughly examined into. A t man as devoted to thecau.se ot his country : as K, K. Jones, and' as liberal iu his of- i ( forts to serve it, should not be hastily ’ ^ condemned by the judgment of his no-1; {juaintanccs or by a. tribunal competent 1 to try him. i j
