Auburn Aheap !—The charter election in this town, yesterday, resulted as follows,which is a sufficient assurance that the course of the Whigs is onward I Our opponents put off their nominations till the last hour, in the hope that they might find us napping—but the event has sufficiently taught them that in this they were mistaken—and we cannot hut congratulate our Whig friends-, both at home and a* broad upon the proof of union, harmony and devotion to the good cause which is exhibited by the result. We have carried every officer in ail of the wards (with the exception of one street commissioner)— and that by a greatly increased majority ! Our opponents may say, perhaps that they did not make their strongest effort.—But why did they not do so ?—Because theywere aware it was to much like “ whistling against the wind,5’ and could amount to nothing ! The full strength of neither party was out; but sufficient was called into action to show which way the tide sets.Whig.
