Aububn Aheap !—The charter election in this town, yesterday, resulted as follows, which is a sufficient assurance that the course of the Whigs is onward ! Our opponents put off their nominations til! the last hour, in the hope that they might find us napping—but the event has sufficiently taught them that in this they were mistake*—and we cannot hut congratulate our Whig friends-, both at home anc! a-broad upon the proof of union, harmony and devotion to the good cause which is exhibited by the result. We have carried every officer in all of the wards (with the exception of one street commissioner)— arid that by a greatly increased majority ! Our opponents may say, perhaps that they did not make their strongest effort.—But why did they not do so ?—Because they were aware it was to much like “ whistling against the wind,5’ and could amount to nothing !
