The Bakersfield Californian Friends and relatives prayed for usure in the killing of a 31-year-old ersfield mother abducted and saf fated to death just over a year ago. Nearly 100 people attended a can elight vigil held at the Greenlawn outhwest Cemetery Saturday ening to remember the one-year aniversary of Tina Blunt’s death. “The vigil is here; it’s a year early,” said Blunt’s brother, Tommy lunt, 44. “We want to close it up. We have lost too much in the family and it’s very hard for us,” he added. Blunt’s decomposed body was found April 14 in a sunken field of grass and trees off Bear Mountain Boulevard, a half-mile west of Highway 99. She had been missing since March 31, 1999. Blunt, mother of two children, was last seen alive about 3:30 a.m. that day when she left her home in the 2600 block of Connie Avenue to go to her job as a ticketing supervisor for SkyWest Airlines at Meadows Field airport. Her car, a 1993 Chevy Blazer, was found two days later in the 5500 block of Dunsmuir Road. With tears cascading down their faces, some of Blunts’ friends still wondered why someone would had killed her. Blunt's relatives said they will con tinue holding candlelight vigils until the killer is found. Until then they assure, the family will find no peace. “We are trying to find closure. We are praying (authorities) will find who did it,” said Tina Carrera, Blunt’s cousin. Tommy Blunt said he hopes that new information on the case, pub lished March 25, 2000, in The Californian, will lead to her sister's killer. Bakersfield police released the name of a family friend who had dis closed details about the killing. Sgt. Mike Cantrell and detective Dennis McBride told The Californian a few days ago that the man who had the information is Jeremy William Fender, 30. Although police didn’t say whether Fender is a suspect, they said that he is “a focus of the investi gation.”
