By WILLIAM CLAYTON HOUSTON (UPI) --Gregory Chappell, who has told police his mother beat him and spanked him and burned him with an iron, was the center of attention today—- and that made him happy. Gregory’s mother, Mrs. An nette Chappell, was free on a 2, 500 bond, charged with disfig uring her 11-year-old son. Contributions for corrective surgery continued to pour in to day. More than $1,000 had been received through Thursday. Gregory's plight was reported to police earlier this week by his uncle. Officers went to the Chappell home and found the boy had a cauliflowered ear, disfigured nose, scarred eye brows and puffy lips. He said his mother had beat en him and once burned his backside with an iron. Mrs. Chappell said Gregory is “mean’’ and that the scars on his face came from falls. She See BOY Page 12
