NAACP PressesAnti-Bias BillWASHINGTON — If Senator Warren G. Magnuson, WashingtonDemocrat, and the National Association for the Advancement ofColored People have their way, itmay somO day soon become illegal for trains, buses, dining cars and railroad station restaurants to segregate against passengers in interstate travel. The midwest legislator has introduced a bill designed which would outlaw bias in this connection. Need for passage of the proposal is urgent, NAACP officials point out, since railroads and otherinterstate carriers have been tak-ing advantage of a loop-hole in the decision of the United States Supreme Court Morgan Case, which.failed to prohibit companies from making and enforcing Jimcrowregulations.Leslie Perry, administrative assistant of the NAACP’s Washington bureau, said this is the first time anti-Jim Crow travel legislation has been introduced in the Senate. He emphasized that the organization “will push for early hearings.”Similar bills have been introduced in the House by Representatives Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.,and Isidore Dollinger, both NewYork Democrats.
