Parkersburg Lad Expected, to Show Great Fora in Big Track Meet. MORGANTOWN, April 2— Pate ™ Barnum, Parkersburg high school youngster is confidently expected to break the existing NightotTee w ords at least for the hammer throw and perhaps also for the discuss and shot put here in the acholastic meet May 21 and 22nd. Last year at the meet, it may be recalled, Barnum was a victim of an unusual circumstance. The first round of the trials in the Hammer had been complete with Wolf of West Milford throwing 107 feet and Barnum getting in, what for him was a bad throw of slightly Jess ian Wolf. In the second round Bar num tossed the road 119 feet break ing the state record by about eigh teen feet and far out-distancing his competitors of the moment. Before the second round was completed, however, the handle on the hammmer broke and since another handle had previously been taken the suply' Was exhausted. ‘Throughout the day it had rained and the program wan far behind its schedule, while dark was approaching. There was nothing to do but calls off the rest of the event land in the fairness to the competitors| who had not had their second retaly| I the whole second round was called off, leaving Barnum's record to go for, Vright. He took it in good grace, however, and later In the summer is said to have gotten a distance of 147| tret with the sphere. Barnum’s, performance with the hol and discus is shout on a par with his work in the hammer and he is ex pected to be one of the receations of the high school event here next month.
