N THE belief that nothing stabilizes citizenship like home ownership, plans for an “Own Your Own Home’ cam paign has been formulated by the depart ment of labor. The matter is pushed to the front right now because the hoped-for in crease in building will afford employment to many idle men, but the basic principle is as stated above. The campaign plan contemplates a gen eral committee in each community headed by a prominent and trustworthy citizen, ‘The business of this committee is to secure all data with regard to building conditions, supplies and methods of financing. It is to conduct publicity campaigns, getting in touch with every man who hopes to build. It aims to aid him in his attempt to own his home. More than this, it is hoped to stimulate in the careless and improvident an inter est in home ownership and to educate the people generally in its desirability. The man who owns his own home is em phatically the responsible citizen. He is not likely to be swayed easily by those whose doctrine is to disturb an or dered scheme of life. THe has the basis for credit, a foundation for growth, his own self-respect and the respect of his neigh bors, all of which makes for solid Ameri canism.
