Duncan, deputy United States marshal, and the latter’s wife at their home southeast of here. John Duncan was conveyed to the county jail atMagnolia. His preliminary hearing will probably be held herenext Tuesday. .At 8 o’clock Tuesday night Garland Duncan and his wife went to a rear porch of their home for water. They were firedupon twice at close range with a gun loaded with buckshot. Dunan was wounded in the shoulder and his wife in the left breast. The second discharge went wild and lodged in the roof of the gallery three feet above the couple’s heads.Duncan, carrying his wounded wife inside the bouse, secured a gun and returned the fire. R. M. Duncan, a brother of Garland, who lives nearby, was summond and secured medical assistauce from Hackley, La. He then came here and' telephoned R. L.
