Baron Edgar dc Bara has just bought, through the Chapin’s Farm Agency, the old Bushnell grant, comprising 585 acres of land, situated nine miles north of St. Augustine, belonging to Captain Edward C. Allen, who iulieiited the estate from his grandfather, Captain Daniel H. Hurl-burt, who carried on an extensive sugar plantation, and was at the same time largely engaged in the African slave trade, probably one ol the largest dealers in slaves in the South. Tradition states that Captain Hurlburt would land a vessel load of slaves, several hundred in number, on the beach, just below the slave market, and take them to his plantation to be acclimated and put in condition to sell to cotton and sugar planters in the South.—St. Augustine News.
