It is being objected to Robert Lincoln that be does not look like, walk like, or talk like bis lather; and that he is ever? inch a Todd. It will be remembered that Mary Todd did n*t contribute material3y to the martyred President’s felicity during his occupany of the White House.— Exchange.Whatever may have been the mental infirm!ties cr eccentricities of Sirs. Lincoln. she was the wife of that man whose name is dearer to the hearts of the American people than any other name of man; and he loyally and tenderly stood by her side, and shielded her weakness with his great strength, to the end of his life. More than that; she has now foilewed him from this life to that where there is no seeing as through a glass darkly; where motive is not discredited by mistake, where the record of our aspirations is not impaired by the weakness in ourselves or the misconceptions of others. The writer of this saw Mrs- Lincoln once; and it was under circumstances that made her eeem. an angel of mercy to him, and he has always since loved to remember her with that impression, and no foibles that gossips have treated so uncharitably could ever remove it. He occupied a cot in an army hospital, wasted with fever; and Mrs. Lincoln came through the ward with great baskets of oranges and lemons, giving one of each lo each patient, and accompanying ‘them with sympathetic and cheering words to every one, and promising to visit them again. That picture, and not the gossip that once so much employed the papers, is Mrs. Lincoln to us; and Its beauty was heightened when, upon the occasion of her death, some months ago, there was discovered that touching inscription upon a 'ring she had worn—“A. L. to Mary— Love is eternal.” Eternal! then how should it be with her cow? and who shall dare to dxspaiage her name V
