A Bicentennial , exhibit commemorating the art work of the late Kindred McLeary will be shown in the art room at Mansfield Memorial library in Columbus for the entire month of May, sponsored by Live Oak Art club. The show will be prepared by McLeary’s sister, Mrs. Truman McMahan, and her grand-niece, Thea Weeks. And since other McLeary family members “dabbled in art, paintings of the late Maude McLeary of Weimar and Mrs. Mamie Kindred McLeary will be shown, along with primitives depicting imaginary scenes from local history by Mrs. McMahan and watercolors and batiks done by Miss Weeks. The show will be titled ““The McLearys, 85 Years of Art.” It may be seen during library hours, Tuesdays, 9-12 and 2-6; Wednesdays and Thursdays, 2-6, and Saturdays, 9-12 and 2- 4. Also, special showings will be announced. The month of May was chosen because, hundreds of visitors are expected for Columbus' big outdoor art show and annual Magnolia Homes Tour, Saturday and Sunday, May 15 and 16. Kindred McLeary, Colorado county native who died in 1949 at the age of 47, gained national reputation as a muralist and was associate profesor of architecture at Cargenie Institute of Technology in Pittsburg. Miss Maude McLeary and Mrs Mamie Kindred MccLeary took art in the ‘80's and ‘90's when young girls considered it fashionable «to “dabble in oils’ and copy works of other artists. Mrs McMahan took up watercolor several years ago and does primtitives for her own entertainment. Thea likes the ancient art of batik, trans fering original designs onto cloth. The public is invited to the showing. Special arrange ments may be made with Mrs McMahan to see it any time by calling her at 732-5861 in Columbus.
