An- ( tilla, a Wakefield High School grad- j uate and after attending four summers, he obtained a Master Degree at Northern Michigan University in 1 1972, began his career as a teacher j in the sixth grade at Jackson School \ in Green Bay in 1967. The extensive | counseling work led him to consid- ‘ er quitting counseling and going • back to teaching, but he was pro- . mised three more elementary coun- 1 selors this fall and with a feeling he was making head way convinced : him to stay on the job. He had applied for the counseling job last 1 summer and is the first regular counselor Green Bay has had. ]Antilla noted he would like one counselor for’every 400 studetns and he is currently responsible for all 26 elementary schools. Children ' have many problems, he said. Those ‘ he has worked with tell him, “Nobody Likes me”, Nobody want to play with me”, ‘Tm a freak” and noted there are a few black sheep in every school, children can be cruel and they come down kind of hard on these kids. Small discussion groups are beneficial including pro-belm children and others well-thought of. He said I’m not always the solution, kids listen a lot more to one of their peers”. He is attempting to get them involved in Boys Clubs and other organizations, and increase parental involvement, but he concluded the work is rewarding and challenging and he has a challenge every day.
