A. R. Bittancourt, of the Canadian customs service, patrol officer along the coast between Victoria and Nanai mo, was in port Tuesday in the pat rol launch ‘‘Winemac,*’’ which he owns and which is chartered to the government. He called at Roche Harbor to fill his oil tanks and came here to call upon Deputy Collector Culver. Mr. Bittancourt is a native of the coast, having been born on Salt Spring island. His home is at Ganges Harbor where he has been in the mercantile business for ten years. He has just sold his store there. Part of his official duties are to enforce the fisheries regulations.
