Much Interest was manifested In the matter of the Wesleyan Female Institute and the disposition made of it meets with general approval.The announcement of the appointments last night was tha cause of a large number of people being In attendance.Conference met promptly at B o'clock with Bishop Hargrove In theohatr. The order of the day was postponed until ' 10:30 o'olook to allow the reading of various reports.Reports were received from the board of education, the committee on temperance, the Sunday-school board, committee on nhurch conference records, and the corporate board of finance.Toe report of tbo special committee on the Wesleyan Female Institute was taken up. Dr. P. [I. Wbisoer argued that 1I the property fell on the hands of the creditors of tbo institution this conference would be damaged to that extent. Alter giving a history of the institution he closed with an appeal to the conference not to allow the Institution to fall through and thus jeopardise tho Interest of the creditors who are willing to do all In their power to make a settlement that will maintain the school. President H. V Ham 111 addressed the conference on the subject.Bev. J. 0. Jones spoke of the long service of Dr. W. A. Harris and hoped that the conference would properly recognize his past services and pay the amount due them, which Is la round numbers about $7,000.The discussion was engaged in by Bev. J. W. Duffy, Dr. B. W. Bond, Bev. Isaso W. Cantor and others.Dr, P. H. Wbisoer, E. S. Conrad and B. B. Stratton were then appointed as a commutes to confer with tbo creditors with a view of ultimately paying the debt and continuing the institute as the conference school.Bev. Iiasc W. Canter announced that 100 shares of tho $10,000 worth of stock desired had been subscribed by telegram by 0. B. Caldwell, of Staunton. The balance of tbe stock was readily ■ubscrlbed by the members of tbe conference and the belief expressed that the Wesleyan Female Institute will yet live to he an educational monument to the Sau thorn Methodist Ctturob. At 1 p. m. a recess was taken till 3 o'clock.At the afternoon session the reports of the committee on publishers' Interests, bosrd of church extension and other matters were considered.Tbe committee on memoirs reported and suitable reaolutlons were adopted regarding tbe death of the late Bishop Usygood and tbe conference was addressed by Bishop Hargrove on bis life and character.Resolutions of sympathy wore adopted regarding the sudden illness of Rev. H.H. Kennedey, of Salem.At this point question twenty of the general minutes woe again taken up and the reports completed.Report No. 3, of tbe temperance committee, was read and adopted, which pledged to the Anti-Saloon League the co-operation of the conference In their war agalnat the saloon.Rev. E. W.
