PASSION SUNDAYObserved Yesterday—Slgiitilciire oI the ' Day-'llM) InmscK Veiled.Yesterday was Passion Sunday. In all the Rouiau Catholic churches the crucifixes and images on the altars were veiled iu commemoration of that period in Christ’s life when he was obliged to retire from the busy scenes of the city to avoid persecution and prepare Himself for the approaching ordeal ending with His death on the cross. The veil of Passion Sunday—its ashen color being a reminder of Christ's period of desolation—is not removed until Maundy Thursday of Holy week, when it is removed and a pure white cloth substituted as a covering, which is removed on Holy Saturday, when the bells ring again at the “Gloria ia Bxcelsts” and thy hallelujah of the day of resurrection is intoned. The services at all the Roman Catholic churches were well attended yesterday and many approached the holy table to comply with their Easter duties, in all the Episcopal churches, too, the day is lenowa as Passion Sunday, and as such was solemuized.
