KBIM-AM and FM radio and Muazk were purchased by King Broadcasting. a new corporation headed by John King, who has helped guide the radio end of KBIM since 1963.King says he plans to continue with the same format for both AM and FM radio, while retaining the community service philosophy of KBIM founder, Bill Taylor.Although the radio stations have not lately worked on anything as spectacular as the drive that raised $25,000 to pay for a kidney transplant for Cheryl Amerson, they regularly help United Way of Chaves County.Last year. King noted, the KBIM radio booth at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair raised $500 for the United Way; this year it took in $561.One of KBIM’s regular community services is “Roundtable,” King continued, a weekday discussion program where groups or individuals can share their concerns on various community needs and problems.And, he said, KBIM presents play-by-play highschool basketball and football.KBIM radio has one claim to fame that very few American stations can boast of — it’s been written up in the London Times Magazine.In 1973, two British journalists were traveling across New Mexico.
