June HitsJ^^B flHBiV ►TOKYO, Sept. 13 (SS)— Southern Kyushu wa£ battered by increasingly strong winds and heavy rains today as the full force of gigantic typhoon June neared the Japanese mainland.Tokyo Weather Central said June would pass .over the east central portion of Kyushu this afternoon and tonight, emerging in the Inland Sea tomorrow morning headed for western Honshu.This morning the storm was 120 miles south of Kyushu pushing north with 100- to 125-mile-an-hour winds at its center. Otherdamages reported included 85 houses destroyed or damaged, 2,781 houses flooded, . four boats sunk and roads, bridges and levees washed away.U.S. weather observers believed the Tokyo - Yokohama area would -escape with only high fringe winds and considerable rains as the track of the typhoon was expected to pass north of Tokyo late tomorrow and on into the Sea of Japan off northern Honshu. Tokyo authorities were taking no chances, however, and have mobilized emergency rescue crews to combat possible disaster.Bases AlertedU.S. military authorities have alerted American bases and precautionary measures are being taken.
