TOKYO, Sept. 9 (SS) —Typhoon June continued to churn across the Pacific toward Okinawa and Japan today as Typhoon Kathy, which hit southern Japan yesterday, completely dissipated.Tokyo weather central said June was 310 miles southwest of Iwo Jima this morning with winds near its center of 140 miles an hour. It was traveling west-northwesterly at 12 miles an hour and was expected to reach a point 480 miles east-southeast of Okinawa by tomorrow morning.Weather observers said thfry didn’t expect the big blow to grow much stronger, but that there were no signs of its weakening within the next few days. No typhoon warnings have been issued for June as yet.Kathy DowngradedMeanwhile Kathy had completely dissolved into an extra tropical low” and was located north of Hokkaido:Kyodo News Service said that on its sweep across Kyushu and southern Honshu, Kathy had accounted for five dead, 14injured and 17 missing. It was the second typhoon to hit this area this year.Other damages reported were 127 houses destroyed with more than 1,000 flooded. Almost 1,000 acres of rice paddies were flooded due to torrential rains which accompanied the typhoon and numerous roads and bridges were washed away.
