MR. SWITZER SAW THE SPOOK.SOHe HeLolds the Midnight Wraith Which: Alarmed Mr. Martin’s Ice Men,It seems that Marshal) McIntyre and ! Bill Gray were not the onlv witueesesof! the mysterionH apparition which hovered over our city from midnight on Friday on till the dawn of Saturday morn- d ing. Several others witnessed the p ghostly visitor and were also completely tlt; mystified both by its appearance and its h actions. Rev. G. \V. Switzer, of the; h Methodist church, saw it, and his story i u► Iis rather interesting.Shortly after ir midnight he stepped into his back door w yard to get a drink at the well. As lie t.j stood there a strange weird sensation r crept over him and although he is un- e able to say whether he was attracted by b any sound nr not lie suddenly felt bis h attention drawn upward, and raising his a eyes With the full expectation of behold- ; a | ing something, he saw what both puz- w I zleii and astonished him. The night e was very dark and verv still, no breath r j of air stirring, but propelled bv sonic j unseen force to saw sweeping toward i e him from the southwest the apparition, i It wa.i about 1lt;) feet long and eight feet t wide, resembling a mass of lloating \ drapery. |t“Sliaprtl like n Meecy. milk while clou*], j i i ir like a demon in a -dii'oml. ‘It was much too low to be a cloud|and moved far too swiftlv, besides there ! 1i .was no wind at all. It seemed to work 1r ' * about as it swam through the air in a writhing, twisting manner similar to the |1 glide of some serpents, Mr. Switzer i1 called his wife out and iliev watched it until got just east of the church when it began to descend as though about to land in the yard of Mrs. ,T. M. Lane. They then lost sight of it for the moment, but Mr. Switzer proceeding into the street saw it arise again and he and !his wife tlmn watched it circle abouttown for some time, finally tiring andgoing into the house with the strange'phenomenon still visible. Mr. SwitzerJ Iis wholly unable to account for it but is; satisfmd that it was not the ShawneeMound ghost. V. lt;). Irwin says that it was a spirit, while the iitikindest remarki |of all was made 1»v Prof. Robert Burtonftwho gravely gives as his opinion that it was **a delusion which got on the optic nerve of those men who had probably been imbibing intoxicants/*
