Nome to Acquire Public RadioNOME (AP) — A new radio station will begin broadcasting in Nome next month.Nome Public Radio will begin repeating a signal from KUAC in Fairbanks at 91J FM on Nov. I, said organizer Hunter Michaelbrink. The station will eventually air locally-produced programs, he said.“We have a 250-watt transmitter now and we’re just waiting for the rest of the equipment. It will be up in some way, shape or form by the first of November,” Michaelbrink said.KUAC’s signal will offer Nome listeners a mix of classical music, jazz and folk programming, as well as news and talk shows from National Public Radio, the Alaska Public Radio Network and Public Radio International.5 One thing Nome listeners will have to get used to is the idea of supporting a radio station directly with listener contributions tnadc during pledge drives, Michaelbrink said.
