's-v. ■ **'• •* - • *4- ■ A‘yi ,it’y:oMANILA, Today—(INS) —At least’ 370 persons were reported officially tonight to have been killed in a typhoon that smashed across the Central Philippines yesterday.Another 200 were listed as missing and it was .feared many of these may have lost their lives in the devastating whirlwind which was blowing itself out over the China Sea.The latest casualty figures, were issued at 8:30 p. (6:30 a. m. EST) by the Philippine Red Cross in Manila.Earlier, Governor Manuel Calleja of Albay Province had telegraphed ifche Red Cross that 118 residents of Tabaeo alone perished, yesterday when thg typhoon hit the town.The governor said the victims were buried in a mass grave this morning.Tabaco lies on Southern Luzon Island, 280 miles southeast of Manila,Prior to receipt of Calleja’s tele* gram, the official death tally had been placed at 40.President Elpidio Quirino ordered the mobilization of the nation’s relief forces to rush aid to the areas stricken by . the typhoon “Trix” which developed winds at its center reaching 140 miles per hour.The typhoon cut a swath of devastation across the mid-Philippines as it howled westward to the China Sea where it was reported spending its.force today. ... Property damage was estimated at several million dollars in seven provinces. Thirty, par cent of the houses in the path of the storm were smashed.
