Candidates Also Named for Re-districting Commission — New County Committee Chosen — Duane Not a Candidate for Street Commission Again—Maj Clarke Protests Against Curley.office. Therefore I offer in nominationfor the office of district attorney that upright, honorable and fearless man, Michael J, Sughrue. In seconding the nomination Hon Daniel V. Me Isaac said:Mr Sughrue is an upright citizen of irreproachable character and of broad sympathies for the poor and unfortunate. His Integrity, his common sense and his unequaled experience is what he offers us, and furthermore, he Is a democrat whose nomination will command the respect, the confidence and the votes of the people of Suffolk county without regard to their political affiliations and will reflect great credit on the democratic party.Dist Atty Michael J. Sughrue wasunanimously nominated to succeed himself by the democratic county convention at Faneuil hall tit evening.Just as the chairman of the convention was about to put the motion nominating Mr Sughrue, Alderman Linehan of ward 13 arose and announced that 13 of uie 14 delegates to which his ward was entitled to in the convention had decided to refrain from voting. As soon as Alderman Linehan took his seat, delegate McDevitt, the only McNamara man elected on the county delegation in the ward at the last primaries, got up and said that he desired to cast his vote for Mr Sughrue. Theannouncement was received with cheersand applause. Mr I.inehan's statement was received with silence.Aside from this incident, the county convention was as smooth as a waxed floor. Everything moved like clockwork, and the business in hand was expedited with remarkable activity, as everybody was anxious to adjourn to attend the democratic ratification meeting at Tremont temple.Pressure Being Brought to Bear on Committee of 100 on Reciprocal Trade to Do This.Pressure is being brought to bear on the committee of 100 on reciprocal trade to declare for Henry M. Whitney, democratic candidate for lieutenant governor. Whether this indorsement will bebrought about is a question. It is known that Eugene N. Foss and his close friends will resist any attempt to get this indorsement.Undoubtedly a large majority of the republicans on this committee will work independently and will vote for Mr Whitney. FOr example, J. M. W. Hall of Cambridge announces publicly that is his position.PROTEST AGAINST CURLEYM* j William M. Clarke, by Counsel, Demands His Name Should Not Go on Official Ballot.Jesse Crook of the Tremont building, acting as counsel for Maj William M.Clarke of ward 17, yesterday afternoonfiled a protest with the secretary ofstate against the placing of the name ofThomas F. Curley on the ballot at thacoming election, on the ground thatCurley, by reason of his conviction of a crime against the United States and hia subsequent expulsion from the legislature, is barred from ofllce.Ha also objects on the ground that the wacancv on the ticket was improperly filled, Clarke’s contention being that the place should have been filled by tha wara committee, and not by the executive committee of the state committee. At his office yesterday afternoon Mr Crook refused to make any explanation of the charges, further than to say that they were in the interests of good government. II is contention that convict lion of a crime against the United States is a sufficient bar to holding office, he would not explain nor cite precedents.A hearing on the protest will be givea later.MICHAEL J. SUGHRUE,Nominated by the Suffolk County Democrats in Convention for District Attorney.Street Commissionership Likely to Go to James H. Doyle, Who Is with Supt Donovan This Fall.In a letter to the president of the democratic city committee mailed yesterday, Street Commissioner John Duane, whose term of office expires next January, states that he will not be a candidate for reelection this fall.Mr Duane says that his private bust* ness affairs require his undivided attention. , „ ^It has been rumored at city hall for the past two weeks that some of the democratic leaders had promised theBosition to Ex-Alderman James H.oyle. who made such a spirited contest last year to displace chairmanCharles of the board or street eommis-sioners.It is well authenticated gossip that Mr Doyle is to work in harmony with Supt Donovan of the street department in the mayoralty election this year.BENTLEY WARREN RESIGNS.
