Kootenay lake contains a sea serpent. It has been seen by a boy 12 years of age, so that no one can say that over-indulgence in liquor has anything to do with it It ia not aa big aa some of the sea serpents which have been seen at eastern summer resorts, but it ia big enough to bo classed in tin- sea serpent class and that ia suHlcient. It was lirst seen at Crawford Bay afew days ago and the news was broughtto Nelson by \V. J. Kane, master of thesteamer Marion. It ia described asbeing about 12 feet long, and havingtwo legs under the front portion of itsbody, so that it ia perfectly at home onland. A few days ago a 12-year-old hoyat Crawford Bav saw it crawl out of the»water to a heap of refuse near the shore and indulge in a very hearty meal, returning afterward to the water and soon disappearing. The hoy notified some men in the neighborhood and they visited the spot where the serpent had appeared on the shore and could plainly see the marks of the web feet Then it was recalled tlm* the kitchen refuse which had been deposited near the shore for some time was continually disappearing, evidently having been visited several times before by the terious lake monster. The Sawyer brothers who run the pack train at Crawford Bay, and others planned to capture the serpent, dead or alive, and and watches have been kept by men with rides in the hope of getting a shot at it, but these have been fruitless.Captain Kane told the story to .several friends in Nelson yesterday, lie has seen the marks of the serpent and is therefore sure that it exists. The boy who saw it is a truthful young man and is believed. If it had been seen only by a man there would undoubtedly have been inquiries at first as to the kind of liquor the man in question usually drank, or as to the kind of “dope’’ to which he was addicted. But the boy does not drink, and is not therefore subject to visits from sea serpents, snakes and the like. He sees only that which exists. The story was given to the Miner in good faith and in equally good faith it is given to the Miner’s readers. The Miner has no affidavits on file as to itstruth and does not care to say whether it believes it or not.—Nelson Miner.11vsVIItV11y0a1t1IIt1(11Ic
