It is not as big as some of the sea serpents which have been seen at eastern summer resorts, hut it is big enough to be classed in the sea serpent class andthat is sufficient.It was tirst seen at Crawford Hay a few days ago, and the news was brought to Nelson by W. .1. Kane, master of the steamer Marion. It is described as being about 12 feet long, and having two legs under the front portion of its body, so that it is perfectly at home on land. A few days ago a twelve year-old boy at Crawford Hay saw it crawl out of the water to a heap of refuse near the shore and indulge in a very hcaity meal, return ing afterward to the water and soon disappearing. The boy notified some men in the neighborhood and they visited the spot where the serpent hail appeared on shore and could plainly see the marks of the web feet. Then it was recalled that the kitchen refuse which had been deposited nearthe mysterious lake monster. The Sawyer brothers who run the pack train at Crawford Hay. and others planned to capture the serpent., (lend or alive, and watches have been kept by men with ri lies in the hope of getting a shot at it, hut these have been fruitless.Captain Kane told the story to Severn friends in Nelson yesterday. Hohas Keen the marks of the serpent andis therefore sure that it exists. The hoy who saw it is a truthful young man and is believed. If it had been seen only by a man there would undoubtedly have been inquiries at first as to the kind of liquor tin* man in question anally drank, or as to the kind of “dope” to which in* was addicted.
