DRAGONS TO OPEN SEASONON FRIDAYThe Dragons, football teani of the local negro school, will open their | , second season of football activity to* | * morrow—Friday—afternoon at Wood-! son field in Temple, against the redoubtable Dunbar Black Panthers of the Prairie City. Last year, the first season for the Dragons, they were■unexpectedly strong for a first year team, and mowed down such opposi-tion as could be found, until they ran up against the Temple Panthers and found that “too much Whiskey” was fatal to their championship | hopes. The Belton boys have been practicing for some three weeks under the leadership of “Snooks” Murray, captain and quarterback. They have also had the counsel of a star player on the Samuel Huston college team. The local squad is small, with no second team to scrimmage against; but the boys are full of fight and hope- to make a good showing. Except one, all of last year’s pioneer team are back this year, and hoping to profit by the experie22ces of the preyious season. Two of the boys balance the beam at 170 pounds, with one linesman a bit heavier still; but the team as a whole lacks weight as well as experience.Tomorrow's game is likely to prove spectacular, whatever the score. Both “Big Whiskey” and “Little Whiskey” are again on the Temple team; and if the former is up to form he will put the proverbial greased pig intothe summer shade as his short butsturdy . legs twinkle evasively down the field. If the Dragons can stophim back of the line, they will havehopes of victory. Otherwise—well, it will be worth seeing, anyway!
