• Support for roadWASHINGTON (AP) - Federal money to begin major road construction in Dubuque was approved by the Senate Thursday night and staffers for Sen. Roger Jepsen, R-Iowa, said House approval was expected.As part of the Surface Transportation Amendment, the Senate approved $12 million for construction of a road south of the U.S. Highway 61 bridge over the Mississippi River, which is just north of downtown Dubuque.Phase one of the four-lane road construction will go to 7th Street and is scheduled for completion in 1986.It will take another three years to complete the link between the bridge and the existing four-lane highway south of Dubuque.
