sponsoredMusicians Award Scholarship, Oct. 6CLEVELAND—Branch No. 1 ol the National Association of Negro Musicians will award fourteen-fear- ' old William Appling of 3014 E. 83rd Street a certificate of scholarship for one years’ study with the renowned Ervin Arthur Kraft, the presentation to be made at the next meeting of the association, 1 Monday, October 6 at the home of j Mrs. Tennie Steele, 3414 E. 137th Street.Young Appling was selected because he is believed to have the possibilities of becoming a very outstanding artist. He is an orphan.The youth possesses an unusual musical ability for his age. He has an excellent memory, reads fluently and is believed to possess absolute^ pitch, which is rare. His former teacher, Mrs. Lambright, and his present musical advisor, Mrs. Winifred Roberts Sheeler, will be present at the presentation.Officers of ths Branch for the next year will be installed at this meeting. They are James P. Lemon, president, the first male to head the organization; William Heard, vice-president; Miss Dorothy Simmons, secretary; Miss Dorothy Greenwood, assistant secretary; and Mrs. Ruth Hayes, treasurer.
