Society gets two works of Jewett artistsSOUTH BERWICK - David 0 Woodbury has presented two of his artisi parent's sketches to the Old Berwick Historical Society for its sarah Orne Jewett collectionCharles and Marcia Oakes Woodbury did the illustrations for two of Miss Jewett’s most popular books Deephaven” and The Tory Lover.”An eminent marine painter who did much of his work in nearby Ogunquit, Charles Woodbury' also taught classes in painting at Wellesley and Dartmouth Colleges and in Boston and Ogurquit.Marcia Oakes Woodbury, a native of South Berwick and close friend to Miss Jewett, specialized in interpretations of people, her portraits of the Dutch, particularly the rosy-cheeked children, winning acclaim in both the United Slates and Europe.Woodbury’s sketchbook includes his preliminary sketches for Hamilton House in ‘The Tory Lover,” the primary setting of the novel. Mrs. Woodbury’s includes several of the sketches for Deephaven,” Mr. Jack and Mr. Ixirimer,” The Widow Tally, “ The Sunday Dinner.” The Lecture Notice,” and The Circus at Denby.”David Woodbury, scientist and writer, was one of thefeatured speakers at the publication party launching the
