Lawmaker fights ‘straight-ticket’ voteCONCORD - The only Libertarian in the 424-member Legislaturevows to push for a state law to outlaw “straight-ticket voting, which benefits the dominant political party in each community.“There is no doubt that in some areas of the state Republicans benefit from straight-ticket voting. There are other areas in the state where Democrats clearly are the beneficiaries of straight-ticket voting,” said state Rep. Steve Vaillancourt, L-Manchester.“But we need to put that aside and think of what is best for the voters. Getting rid of straight-ticket voting is the single best thing we can do to straighten out the process.”After Vaillancourt lost a Democratic primary bid for the state Senate in September, Libertarian Party leaders gave Vaillancourt their party’s nomination, and he won re-election to his House seat.
