Twenty stores and shops are on the Seaside and Ocean Blvd, level of the building, with one entire floor on the Ocean Blvd. level given over to a public garage.Although the building permit issued to Meyer Holler, architects and contractors, was for only $960,000, the investment in the building and ground rated at two million dollars.THIS BUILDING with a frontage of 75 feet, beautifully set back 100 feet from Ocean Blvd, by reason of the city park strip along the entire south side of Ocean Blvd, from Pacific Ave. to Alamitos Ave., rises in a series of setback stories to a tower, whose peak is 260 feet above Seaside Blvd.The building extends back 272 feet almost to the high tide line on the beach. Inoccupied for merchan-for four years. The area of the store is more than tripled by the addition.The Hugh A, Marti Department Store finished the first unit of its new four-story basement building at the northwest corner of Pine Ave, at 4th St. early in the year, and started and completed the second and last unit. Department Store at the northeast corner of Pine Ave. and Broadway. That investment exceeded $1,250,000. This building of striking modernistic architecture, topped by a tower, is about seven stories in height and covers an area 150 by 150 feet.Four floors of this full size are available for merchandising, while the administrative offices are on a fifth floor covering about half the area. The new building combined the former Wise Co. four-story building on Broadway into one structure.The Pine Ave. Realty Co. late last month finished the three-story annex to the eight-story Kress Building at the southwest corner of 5th St. and Pine Ave. The company is reported to haye paid $230,-000 for the ground, 50 by 150 feet.S. K. Kress Co. lias leased the entire structure, full basement and three upper stories and has combined its floors with the first two floors and basement of the present Kress Building which had/if-'. -ground value.THE FAMOUS Department Store completed its new two-story and basement home 100 feet square at the northwest corner of 6th St. and Pine Ave,, with an investment in ground and building estimated at about $350,000.
