KZLN Channel 60 — the Valley’s new Public Broadcasting System affiliate — is scheduled to begin broadcasting Wednesday with a weather program at 7:45 a.m.The popular childen’s program “Sesame Street” will be broadcast at 8 a.m., followed by educational television and a full daily and nightly schedule, said station spokeswoman Karen Lefevre.The station, receivable with an ultra-high freqency antenna, can be found by turning the VHF dial to ‘U,’ then turning the UHF dial to 60. The special, oval antenna can be purchased for as little as 99 cents.The station will also be carried by Palm Valley Cablevision, the KLZN announced.Heritage Cablevision has not yet determined whether it will pick up the station, said cable company General Manager Neil Haman.Haman explained that the station will be monitored for about a month to assure good broadcast quality before the PBS station in Corpus Christi, currently carried by Heritage, will be replaced.Heritage will apply for a waiver of Federal Communications Commission regulations to keep the Corpus Christi PBS station if KZLN quality is poor, Haman said.Among the programs to be carried by KZLN will be “Masterpiece Theater,” “Nova,” Carl Sagan's “Cosmos” and other high culture, non-commercial programming.In addition to “Sesame Street,” children’s progamming includes “Mr. Rogers,” and the “Electric Company.”
