Noel cited poor NBC ratings for the change.“It was a difficult decision to make,” Noel said. “We had toA ftNetworkstake a long bard look at the poor performance by NBC in this highly competitive business. ABC has by far the most aggressive, innovative programming of the three maior networks.”Thc April 12 change will mark.the end of a 26-year television relationship with NBC by KRGV, and the end of a broadcast affiliation extending over 38 years.Noel said the station had been pleased with the NBC affiliation in the past, “but we must look to the future. We are convinced we can best serve the television* *»9Valley bymaking this change.” KRGV, which operates on Channel Five, will cany the fiill ABC program schedule, starting with “Good Morning, America” program at 7 a.m. on weekdays. The program stars David Hartman.Noel said he believed Valley viewers will find “Good Mor* ning, America” what he termed “a refreshing change from our previous programming.’’ He said it wasn’t as “pukiy asNBC’s effort.” .He said the affiliation change will allow Valley tv viewers fillaccess to ABC programming on anon-delayed basis.It will include late-evening network newscasts on Saturday and Sunday, plus the full compliment of ABC sports programming.
