Board OKs two new VPsBy Bruce CharonnatVice Provost for Research William Massy will replace Robert Augsberger as vice president tor business and finance in September, President Richard Lyman has announced.Lyman also disclosed the appointment of Joel Smith as vice president for development, succeeding Kenneth Cuthbertson. Smith is currently Cuthbertson’s special assistant and will assume his new post in August.Both appointments were approved by the Board of Trustees at its meeting earlier this month. In addition, the board selected two new members, Sallyanne Payton and John A. Young.Lyman, commenting on the appointments, said Massy brings a strong sense of purpose and enthusiasm to the bus-iness and finance vice presidency. His distinction in budgetary planning and his accomplishments as a faculty member and administrator are widely known, and the sum of his experience will be put to good use in the enterprise.“I know that Bill’s good sense and good humor will serve him and Stanford well. Payton was an alumni-elected board member from 1972 to 1976.15 years hereMassy, known for his studies of fiscal planning for universities, joined the Graduate School of Business faculty in 1962. In 1971, the school promoted him to associate dean and, later that year, he was appointed to his current post.Smith MassySmith came to the University in 1965 as an associate general secretary, concentrating on development and fundraising.
