New Sea Monster Sighted Sunday Off Police PointA freak counsin to an ogopogo or what may more likely prove to be an alligator was spotted, and vouched for in the South Saskatchewan River ot'f Police Point here last night. ,The freak acquatice animal was seen by Mr. and Mrs. John Needrum, 465 Eighth St, and their two children, Dennis, 8, and. Florence 5* The kiddies were bathing on the sand bar near the point about eight o’clock Sunday night when they saw a “log” coming up the river at a rapid clip.They called to their father who was standing on shore and the ’gator reared out of the water,/Showing an ugly head and long snout It was about 200 feet offshore. Mr. Needrum rushed to the children and helped them scramble from the water. Mrs. Needrum was called to the scene. Then the freak, or whatever it was, struck the. sand bar and started rushing towards the family. •The Needrums scrambled up the river bank and watched the aligator for some. 20 minutes. It sported about in a lagoon, swimming mostly under water, occasionally raising its head to cast a baleful glance at the group on the river bank. Upon his return to the city Mr. Needrum reported the incident to city police. It may be the part of wisdom to avoid bathing at Police Point for a time. Certainly there was nothing fanciful in the Needrums’ description of the “monster”, and it could hardly., be an overgrown sturgeon or pike which are common in these waters at a heavypoundage.Mr. Needrum estimated “the thing” would be some three feet in length, of a very dark color, “possibly green or black”. He shied rocks at it which only seemed to infuriate the ’gator rather than driving it away,
